Women Reservation Bill: A step forward or just a mere delusion to woo the votes!!

Women reservation to a whopping one-third the no of seats in parliament has become the major issue of debate both in and out of parliament. And with all major modes of  media chipping in this issue has caught attention of almost every Indian.

This bill could prove to be a pivotal step towards emancipation of women with elected women candidates possibly raising important issues concerning womanhood and problems faced by them and might also be crucial in bringing some sense of decency in the heads of a few hooligans sitting there!!

But the major question of concern here is will this bill really bring some power in the hands of ordinary women or will just end up deceiving the voters. With enforcement of this bill will normal women come up and fight as electoral candidates?…will major political parties issue seats to normal educated, aware women citizens…..or will it just be the sisters, sisters in law, wives or daughter in laws to people with important political people grabbing all the seats and eventually end up being a meager prop in the hands of men of their houses ??? And more so with the demands of major political parties for reservations under the reservation on the basis of caste, creed or religion doesn’t it totally demean even the basic idea of democracy???

With all these questions yet to be answered and all the more uncertainties in the hindsight enforcement of this bill I guess is still worth all the efforts for the women of this country who despite of their tremendous efforts have more often than not suffered terribly in the past 63 years of independence……just for them……it’s worth all the troubles!!!
