Urban Desi Crosses Over to the US or Not? -Article
Artists like Jay Sean have made us proud by beginning to cross over into the American mainstream by signing with the hip hop heavyweight Lil Wayne. Jay Sean has a massive global fan base but what will the mainstream American audience think of him? So far there hasn’t been a major Desi pop star in the US, so will Jay Sean be the first? Many Desi’s in the US are stereotyped as ‘I.T. nerds’, so how will they perceive Jay Sean? In a DesiHits! interview with 50 Cent, he compares Jay Sean to American R&B artist Jon B who at best had one platinum record and quickly fell off the map. Jay Sean has signed to Cash Money Records and is rumored to have a remix to one of his songs with Lil Wayne floating around. The R&B sensation is quite attractive and has several hot songs out so he does have a good chance of gaining the recognition he deserves, but I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. We have also seen Urban Desi artist work on some major projects in Bollywood. The Indian film industry has received major recognition around the globe and like we always tell you at Desi Hits! Hollywood loves to collaborate with Bollywood. So by hooking up with Bollywood these Urban Desi stars are not only working on some renowned projects, but they are in a way building ties with Hollywood. Hard Kaur is seen at almost all the swanky Bollywood events, and recently we saw the hot collaboration between Bohemia and Akshay Kumar. These are just two examples of the many Urban Desi artists who are making a place for themselves in Bollywood. So you can say these artists are hanging with the big league. And how can we forget the success of Rishi Rich, the producer has not only brought great artist to the Urban Desi scene but has also been appreciated by artists like Madonna and Britney Spears as he has worked on remixes for both artists plus many other major artists in the mainstream market. These are just a few examples of the booming scene. So what do you guys think? Will Urban Desi have an impact in the US? Tell us your thoughts?” So best of luck to our boy Jay…. An article from DESIHITS.“Oh yes! It’s a flourishing genre that’s a collision of all Desi beats from Bollywood to Bhangra mixed with a lethal dose of Hip Hop and R&B.
